Zhang Tian Zhi is a fictional character portrayed by Max Zhang (Zhang Jin) in the 2015 film Ip Man 3 and the spin-off film Master Z: Ip Man Legacy (2018).
In Ip Man 3, Zhang Tian Zhi is a skilled Wing Chun practitioner who challenges Ip Man (Donnie Yen) to prove his own supremacy in the martial art. He initially operates a martial arts school and provides illegal services, but his pride and ambition lead him to seek recognition as the true inheritor of Wing Chun.
Master Z: Ip Man Legacy follows Zhang Tian Zhi's life after his defeat by Ip Man. He attempts to distance himself from Wing Chun and lead a normal life, working odd jobs and trying to provide for his son. However, he becomes entangled in a dangerous conflict with a foreign gang, forcing him to embrace his martial arts skills once again to protect himself and his loved ones. The film chronicles his journey of redemption as he reclaims his honor and purpose through Wing Chun.
